Bangle Carving Workshop (29 May 2022)
Spoon Carving Workshop with Theresa Darmody: 10–1pm Sunday 29 May
A bangle that has been hand carved from beautiful natural timber and which fits your wrist perfectly is one that you will wear. Learn how to carve your own unique wooden bangle in this hands-on workshop led by artist Theresa Darmody.
You will be able to choose from a variety of timbers and have fun creating your own design that will fit perfectly. Theresa will guide you on the characteristics of different timber species, and how to identify and work with the timber's grain to achieve a beautiful bangle.
You will learn how to safely use razor-sharp carving tools, and specific carving techniques to efficiently shape the timber to your desired shape. Once your bangle is carved, you will learn how to burnish and oil to bring out the grain of the timber and achieve a beautiful finish.
Theresa Darmody is a painter and mixed media artist whose brushes are collecting dust since she caught the wood carving bug five years ago. Her arts practice is now deeply focused on hand carving sculptures and functional pieces objects of beauty that celebrate the natural properties of timber.
