Mad Hatter's Tea Party Workshop for Kids with Jane du Rand, 9-1pm Tuesday 27 & Friday 30 September 2022

Spring is almost here, kids! Come along to Plant Empire to join Jane du Rand for this 2-part workshop to make an exquisite mini tea set and your own mad hat to celebrate spring 2022 with a mad hatter's tea party!

Kids' finished pieces can be used as a functional or play tea set or as decorative art in the home or garden. For plant-lovers, these pieces can be made with drainage holes to serve as cute planters. It would also make a beautiful gift for a loved one this Christmas.

In the first 4-hour workshop, you will sculpt your tea set, including a teapot, cups, plates and spoons, along with your choice of delicate miniature cakes, biscuits, sandwiches or dim sum (yum!) - as many as you can make in the time available. Jane will share her tips for making little creatures from nature to adorn your tea set, including birds, butterflies, flowers and leaves. Jane will bring reference material with images of animals and plants for you to create, or you might like to bring your own bird photos or images from online to recreate in the class.

Your work will be bisque-fired before the second 4-hour workshop where you will decorate your tea set, plus additional bisque-fired ceramic "snacks" which will be supplied, in fine detail using glazes and oxides. We are also going to make our own mad hat designs which we will wear while enjoying an actual Mad Hatter's Tea Party, this time involving real food. Finished pieces will be kiln-fired for a second time, and will be available for collection from Plant Empire one week following the second workshop.

All materials and equipment for the workshop, including clay, glazes and kiln-firing, will be supplied. All levels of experience welcome. Please wear closed shoes and clothes you can get dirty (or an apron). This workshop is targeted kids aged 8-13; however, older kids are most welcome to attend, and younger kids can also attend with an older sibling. Please include your child's name and age as a note with your registration. We will supply morning tea: please also let us know with your registration notes if your child has allergies.

Cost: $195 / $175.50 (Multi-pass)

Multi-pass discount: Sign up for 2 or more Plant Empire events, or register 2 or more people for the same event, to receive 10% off the ticket price (discount will appear at checkout).
