Birds in Relief Workshop (13 September 2020)
Birds in Relief Workshop with Jane du Rand: 9–5pm Sunday 13 September.
A “relief” in art is a 3-dimensional sculpture that sits against a solid base or backing, as if rising from formlessness into form. Reliefs made from clay form an essential part of Jane du Rand’s ceramic and mosaic art, allowing her to combine ceramics and mosaics in unique ways that provide scale and life to her work. Jane’s bird reliefs feature in many of Jane’s large ceramic and mosaic murals and are a celebration of the delicate beauty and power of bird life.
In this special full-day workshop, you will learn from Jane du Rand to design and create a bird in relief using clay. You will have the choice of bird that you’d like to make using your own selection of decorative finishes and colours. Finished pieces will be glazed and kiln-fired, and can be used as wall art inside or outside the home. Bird images will be supplied for you to use as reference, or you can bring an image if you would like to make a specific bird.
All materials and equipment for the workshop, including clay and glazes to make your relief will be provided. Classes are run face-to-face, and participants outside of Brisbane are also welcome to attend: classes will be run by webinar for those who are unable to attend in person, either as a result of COVID19 restrictions or remote locations, with workshop materials supplied for collection, local or postal delivery (select your delivery option at checkout when registering).
This workshop is targeted for adults, but is also suitable for teenagers or tweens when accompanying an adult or older sibling. All levels of experience welcome.
