Creative Kids: Ceramic Insects Workshop (13 January 2020)
Creative Kids: Ceramic Insects Workshop with Jane du Rand: 9–11am Monday 13 January.
This is the sixth in a series of kids' workshops that Plant Empire will be hosting for creative kids during the summer school holidays.
In this workshop, ceramic and mosaic artist Jane du Rand will work with young creatives to learn how to draw insects, and then bring their designs to life using clay. Kids can choose to make butterflies, bees, grasshoppers, dragonflies or elephant beetles with their own selection of decorative finishes and colours. Kids will create 5–10 insects in total, making perfect gifts for family and friends, or decorations for the home. These insects can also be used as feature tiles to make mosaic pavers, for children joining this workshop with Jane on 16 January (as shown in the photos below).
Finished pieces will be kiln-fired during the week following the workshop, and can be collected from Plant Empire from 16–31 January.
All materials and equipment for the workshop, including clay and coloured slip to make the decorations will be supplied. All levels of experience welcome. Please wear closed shoes and clothes you can get dirty (or an apron).
This workshop is targeted for kids 8–13 years old, although children a little younger or older are welcome to join where siblings are attending. All Plant Empire workshop presenters involving children are Blue Card holders.
