By artist: Jessica Malousis
Painting, 30 x 122cm
This painting is representational of dandelions in all their glory - a small seemingly insignificant weed in Brisbane suburbia, and worldwide, but highly nutritious and a hardy plant. A common every day plant full of beauty. Integrated are my refined fractal like patterns as part of the dandelion roots below ground. Paintings are based on my macro photography practice.
About the artist.
I am a part time art teacher, entrepreneur, image maker & full time mother. I regularly exhibit as an emerging Brisbane visual artist (incl. macro photography). I graduated with a dual degree in the Creative Industries (major Visual Arts) & Secondary Education (1st Class Hon) in 2009. I am a qualified secondary/primary school teacher. I left full time teaching when I became a mother in 2012, reignited my arts practice more fully and built up a small art school from 2013. My paintings are based around observations of my every-day as well as human interaction. I turn common things into beautiful paintings based on growth, gardens, insects, weeds & built environments to form real and imagined narratives. Focus is on perspectives & juxtapositions of subjects often overlooked or under-appreciated such as insects and small misplaced plants & roots - especially snails, also integrating a unique fractal pattern I've developed.
