Garden Dweller Workshop (5–26 March 2022)
Garden Dweller Workshop with Monte Lupo Arts: Saturday 5–26 March 2022.
In this 13-hour workshop held over four weeks in March, you will learn from artist Kim Green from Monte Lupo Arts to sculpt and decorate your own ceramic Garden Dweller to live in your garden at home.
Garden Dwellers are usually around 30-40cm high, and are whimsical sculptures to decorate your home or garden. They differ from the Head Planter workshop that we run with Monte Lupo Arts in being larger in size, as well as having arms and hands, and a mosaic body. They can, however, be made as planters, or to support a vessel (such as a bowl or hat) to serve as a bird bath.
In the first week's 6-hour workshop, you will learn a range of hand-building pottery techniques including coil building, scoring and slipping to make your basic sculpture with arms and hair. You will also sculpt your garden dweller's face and add features like a bird bath or planter along with embellishments like flowers and butterflies. When you return for the second week’s 3-hour class, you will learn about underglaze for bisque ware and how to apply different painting and glazing techniques. Your glazed piece will be fired following this second workshop, ready for you to decorate with mosaic tiles in the third 2-hour workshop. In the final 2-hour workshop, you will grout your mosaic tiles ready to dry and take home.
