Indoor Plants 101: An Introduction to Growing Indoor Plants - Talk with Stephen Flood (2–3:30pm Sunday 8 May)

Who doesn't want a home filled with beautiful plants to bring life, oxygen and a connection to nature? The reality of indoor plants for many people is sad looking plants, burnt leaves, pests and root rot. If you've ever struggled with the basics of looking after houseplants, you need not submit to the world of plastic plants just yet. Join us for this talk with expert grower and horticulturist Stephen Flood to learn all the basics and build your confidence with growing a range of indoor plant varieties.

This talk will cover:

  • Understanding types of plants that are typically grown indoors
  • Choosing plants to grow inside the home, as well as on decks and balconies
  • Tips for growing plants in containers
  • Learning how to observe your plants to identify what they need earlier
  • Common indoor plant problems, such as leaf burn, mealy bugs and spider mites, and how to treat them
  • When to water, fertilise and repot
  • How to propagate popular indoor plants

This talk is suitable for the curious beginner and experienced indoor gardeners. The formal talk will be approximately 1 hour in length, followed by 30 minutes of questions from participants, so please feel free to bring along a question, photo or miserable plant for Steve to solve.

Participants are welcome to join in person or join online via webinar: choose from one of these two options when registering. If you have selected the option to join online, you will be sent a link via email to login to the presentation online on the day before the talk's start time (for this reason, please ensure that you include your email address when registering). You will also need to select the "in-store pickup" option for delivery if you are joining online. We will have a moderator who will field questions for Steve from people who are joining online. Coffee and light food will be available for purchase for those attending in person.
