Mexican Basket Weaving Workshop (8 February 2020)
Mexican Basket Weaving Workshop with Julya Hegarty: 10am–2pm Saturday 8 February
Join weaver and ceramicist Julya Hegarty to learn the beautiful art of coil weave. You will make a brightly coloured long-lasting basket from loose rope and eco-dyed plant fibres that is perfect as a wall planter, fruit bowl, or precious items around the home.
You’ll leave this workshop knowing all you need to make your own baskets at home from start to finish. Julya will help you in identifying the types of plants from your garden that can be used in your home weaving projects, and you will learn how to re-use green waste in a sustainable way to make baskets using nothing but collected plant matter. Guidance and tuition will be on hand to support you through all the stages of the basket-making process, and there will be a range of sample baskets for you to handle and draw inspiration.
Plant Empire's workbench honours everyone for their individuality and creative contributions: this introductory weaving course is suitable for all levels of weavers, from beginners to experienced weavers. All materials will be provided, and groups are kept small to allow for individual attention and a satisfying learning experience.
Cost: $85 / $76.50 (Multi-pass)
