Nature Art Journal Workshop (16 March 2024)
Nature Art Journal Workshop with Megan Forward: 10–1pm Saturday 16 March 2024.
Artist Megan Forward invites you to explore the beauty of the natural world by learning how to make a nature art journal.
To start the workshop, Megan will talk about how nature art journalling works, and share some examples of her own nature art journals. This is a meditative practice involving illustration, painting and writing that you can use to document memories of places or things, mindfully attend to the natural world, or just develop your creativity and curiosity. Each journal is unique and contains ideas, small noticings, and interesting observations and explorations.
This workshop gives you an opportunity to learn how to use a range of mixed media tools including watercolour, charcoal, pencil, ink, pastels, pen or collage. Megan will demonstrate how to use each of these mediums and to mix colours, and you’ll be able to explore different tools through some observational drawing exercises that have the aim of helping you "learn to see".
Then it’s on to start journalling, and you’ll have lots of time to create multiple leaves or one large work with Megan sharing techniques and ideas as you work. You will work in a concertina paper panel, which can read like a book, or fold-out as a long panel.
Megan Forward is an Australian contemporary artist, illustrator, teacher, storyteller, and nature enthusiast on a mission. Through her mixed media paintings, assemblage sculptures, and children's books, she explores the wonders and interconnectedness of the natural systems that surround us. Megan's art is inspired by the intricate weaving of flora, fauna, the earth, and our place amongst that as humans.
Megan will supply all the materials you need for this workshop; but you are also welcome to bring in your own seeds, leaves, flowers or other items from nature for your journal. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels, from absolute beginners to advanced students who would like to learn from Megan. Please note that we don't send workshop reminders, so please be sure to add this event to your calendar as soon as you've registered.
