Nature Survives - Right Arm

By artist: Joanna Hawkins

Digital drawing/painting on paper, 43 x 62cm

The artwork consists of 5 individual works but when displayed together make up a complete work. Much like a puzzle. Each individual work is a portion of a human skeleton (1. Skull, 2. Torso, 3. Left arm, 4. Right arm, 5. Legs). The skeleton represents humankind, it’s covered in vines, flowers, mushrooms, moss, insects and spiders. These elements of nature represent Mother Nature growing, surviving and fighting back.

About the artist.

I’m a full-time digital artist/ illustrator based on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. I have a Diploma of Visual Arts and a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutritional Medicine). I am currently inspired and obsessed with drawing nature; plants, flowers, insects and birds. I am fascinated with nature; each species has their own traits, personalities and life cycles. I am drawn to the patterns, shapes and colours that grow in each plant. My method of creation usually starts with taking my own reference photos of plants and flowers I see in my neighbourhood gardens, parks and from my own garden. Then depending on the illustration I am creating I draw from these reference photographs. This method for me results in creating a connection with nature through my artwork.
