There are always so many words that can be used to describe shadow and light so I wanted to put some of them together to share the contrast. I used the trusty thesaurus so you will see from some of the words used that they are not common words that we would use every day, in fact some I had never heard of previously. If you don't know what one of the words mean, use the colours on each side of the word tiles to help you work out whether it is a word of shadow or light.

About the artist.

I love the exploration and experimentation opportunities that ceramics give me to regularly try new ideas. All of my work is hand-built and ranges from garden sculptures to vases, wall hangings, decorated spheres and kitchenware. The pieces I create always include some form of texture, pattern or decorative 3D sculptural elements created using fabric, ceramic tools, stamps, and cutters. I also love colour which is always carefully thought out and incorporated into my work. Most pieces make use of underglazes, commercial crystal glazes and usually a combination of gloss and matte clear glaze to finish the pieces. I love to make items that are unique, one-of-a-kind, sometimes quirky and unusual, but always different. As they are hand-built, no two pieces are ever the same. I have worked in art in some capacity, whether full-time, part-time or as a hobbyist, since the 1990s exploring painting, textile art, mosaics and ceramics.

Collection or delivery.

This item is part of the Plant Empire Garden Art Exhibition, on display at Plant Empire from 17 October - 22 November 2026.
