Seed Art: Twig and Ink Drawing (25 July)
Seed Art: Twig and Ink Drawing with Sophie Munns: 1:30–5:30pm Saturday 25 July
Join artist Sophie Munns for a drawing class with a difference. Every plant seed, from a microscopic spore to a giant Bunya cone, contains its own natural intelligence and enormous potential to create a complex plant many times its size. They are a vital part of our environment, but when was the last time that you really stopped to look, really look, at the seeds in your own backyard?
Sophie Munns invites you to explore the beauty and power of life through this unique "slow" drawing class focused on seeds. You will start this class at home, by collecting seeds and twigs that you find interesting, and which you will study in more detail through the lens of your mobile phone camera during the class. Using your twigs as pens, you will study their unique visual language in simple mark making with ink on paper. Finally, you will progress to produce a beautiful monochromatic long panel drawing of your seed collection that you can return to your home as art.
This workshop is an opportunity to reflect on our natural environment, climate and biodiversity, and to rediscover the hidden beauty in our everyday lives. Sophie will have a range of materials on hand for this workshop, including twigs, ink, seeds and paper; but you are encouraged to collect your own twigs and seeds from your home environment to bring to the workshop. If you have a special journal that you'd like to use for your seed drawings, bring that along as well. You will receive your own bottle of ink to take home so that you can continue to make twig and ink drawings after the class.
This introductory drawing class will be held in-person at Plant Empire in Yeerongpilly and is suitable for absolute beginners through to artists.
