Watercolour Corners Workshop (29 October 2023)
Watercolour Corners Workshop with Bronwen Jones: 10–1pm Sunday 29 October 2023.
Join artist Bronwen Jones for this 3-hour introductory workshop to learn how to bring cosy interior corners to life using watercolour.
You will start this workshop by learning the basic techniques of watercolour painting, including: understanding different types of watercolour paints, activating watercolour palettes, selecting brushes, and mixing colours. Bronwen will demonstrate how to achieve different effects with watercolour, like creating sharp and soft edges, how to follow lines, how to blend and layer colours, and how to use pens to add detail.
You will have an opportunity to practise these different watercolour techniques and experiment with different papers before working through some exercises that will challenge you to mix colours, create gradients and patterns, follow lines and fill spaces. You will experiment working with prepared line drawings, creating drawings based on existing images, and also working in a freeform style.
You will then move on to creating a full watercolour painting (A5 in size), and will have the option of working with a more detailed line drawing from a selection of Bronwen's designs, or a simple drawing where you create some of the detail, or working entirely freeform.
Bronwen Jones is a botanical artist who uses watercolour and gouache paints to create idealised domestic vignettes that celebrate interior spaces, indoor plants and the beauty of internal lives. Geometric patterns, textures and line work add to the richness of Bronwen's art, with carefully composed small details to be discovered by the viewer.
All levels of experience are welcome: this workshop is suitable for both first-time and advanced students.
