Inspiration for the painting was drawn from the flowers at the recent wedding of the artist's youngest daughter. An exuberant colour palette supports a lively composition with abundant flowers and leaves jostling for attention. The painting has a dynamic rhythm which draws the viewer through the piece, with collage and textural elements supporting the composition. Blocks of background colour anchor and strengthen the design.
About the artist.
Fee Bissett is an artist based in the southern Gold Coast hinterland. She began painting late in life and is largely self taught. Her painting practice developed over the last decade through attendance at weekly studio classes supplemented by regular attendance at artists workshops. She has had two successful exhibitions at Wild Canary (2023 and 2026), and recently showed at Studio 8 Currumbin. Her work is inspired by local landscape and botanical subjects and is a fresh expression of contemporary coastal life. She incorporates mixed media techniques and processes in multiple layers and allows these mediums to influence the direction the work takes. She frequently uses collage elements which contribute to the originality of her work. The finished pieces are expressive free interpretations that are a little bit abstract and occasionally quirky.
