Poppies on Blue Background
By artist: Stephanie Morris
Acrylic paint on wooden panel. 45 x 63 x 6 cm
Part of my recent practice has included an exploration of flora, in particular the colours and shapes of flowers. I combine acrylic paint, acrylic gouache and acrylic paint pens and inks in my work, with an illustrative style that references the treasured books of my childhood, including the works of Rackham, Dulac and Cicely Mary Baker. I work either on yupo paper or wooden panels treated with gesso. "Poppies on a Blue Background" typifies my interest in the fine traceries of the blossoms' petals, and the combinations of colours that can best highlight their soft brilliance.
