Reflections of the Granite Belt II
By artist: Kelly Southee
Soft pastel. 45 x 54 x 2 cm
Here, light is built from colour. The shadows of the bush are layered violets, indigos and deep greens, a dark that still breathes, while the trunks catch slivers of lilac, pink and chalky white. On the bank, hot oranges and ochres push forward against the cool shade and water. Below, acid yellows and mossy greens drag downward into reflection, where shade turns to shimmer. The raw, direct touch of pastels allows the eye to feel the flicker of light rather than a fixed moment.
