The Hidden Somewhere

By artist: Anita Armbrust

Bark, seed pods, sticks, fungi, grasses, cross arm (hardwood), timber, hessian, leaves, fronds, rocks. 30 x 30 x 23 cm

Constructed from a combination of recycled, found and natural materials, this handcrafted fairy house celebrates the creative potential of reimagining discarded objects. The framework is built from a reclaimed pine produce crate, one of thousands that are discarded each year, while the base is formed from a decommissioned electricity pole. Sections of salvaged hardwood electricty cross arms have been incorporated into the furniture details, giving new life to materials that would otherwise have been destined for waste. Collected bark, seed pods, leaves, twigs, stones and other natural treasures are carefully assembled alongside these reclaimed elements to create an enchanting miniature dwelling that appears to have emerged organically from the landscape. By combining salvaged industrial materials with the beauty of nature, the work demonstrates how overlooked and discarded objects can be transformed into something both beautiful and meaningful.

About the artist.

I enjoy spending time outdoors, walking in nature and discovering the beauty in small things that are easily overlooked. I grew up in the country and spent my childhood exploring paddocks, rivers and creeks. I have always collected natural materials (such as leaves, bark, seed pods, sticks and stones) that inspire my creativity and reflect my love of the outdoors and the natural world. The textures, shapes, colours and patterns I discover inspire me, and each item I collect has its own character and story, which I enjoy incorporating into my artwork. With this fairy house, I have transformed ordinary objects from nature into something magical and imaginative, combining my love of nature with my creativity. Creating this artwork has helped me slow down, be mindful and appreciate the unique details and treasures found in nature. Nature is amazing!
