The Portal of Dreams
The Portal of Dreams
By artist: Vanessa Fitzgerald Scott
Collaged rusted and homemade recycled papers, acrylic paints, board. 50 x 44 x 1 cm
To my mind’s eye, dreams are a combination of shadows and light, meshed together to give an impression of something not fully formed. As a child and into adolescence I had a recurring dream about turtles where I was standing on a cliff, looking down over a moonlit scene with hundreds of turtles, all with their heads raised out of the water, looking up at me in expectation. This is my response to that dream: reaching through the shadows and looking towards the light, what do you see when you look through your own portal of shadows and light?
About the artist.
I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live, create and show my art. I pay my respects to First Nations Elders, past, present and emerging; and extend that respect to all Mob alive today. I am a proud Bundjalung woman who enjoys creating art, connecting with community and living life on Meanjin country. A few of my favourite things include: all things paper related, especially playing with recycled and botanical paper pulp; nature-driven printing and mark making; and all organisms that fall into the insect and arachnid families. I would consider myself an established artist, with around 30 years of design experience covering digital and print formats.
