Turquoise Gem
Turquoise Gem
By artist: Megan Taylor
Mixed media and acrylic on canvas. 92 x 92 x 4 cm
This painting was inspired by the sun hitting the rocks at Kings Canyon, Central Australia. Bright, sunlit forms contrast with deep shadowed spaces, creating a sense of depth, movement and discovery. The small turquoise waterhole becomes a focal point, tucked between larger landforms and partially hidden from view. For me, the work is about slowing down and noticing the places that reveal themselves only when the light is right.
About the artist.
Megan Taylor is a Queensland-based artist whose abstract landscapes are inspired by the colours, shapes and textures of the Australian landscape. Mostly self-taught, she has painted throughout her life while balancing work and family commitments. Drawing on memories of remote places and distinctive landforms, her work simplifies the landscape into interconnected shapes and layers of colour that evoke a sense of place rather than a literal view. Through her paintings, Megan hopes to capture the beauty and spirit of the Australian environment and invite viewers to bring their own memories and experiences to the work.
