COCOONED
COCOONED
By artist: Megan Evans
Vine, linen thread, copper wire, clay, paint, timber and metal stand. 10 x 20 x 30 cm
COCOON, SWADDLED and ENVELOPED are inspired by the quiet and often overlooked miracles occurring in the natural world. Referencing forms such as the complex chrysalis, the woven nest, and the engineered web, these works examine structures that hold, protect and transform. This series of artworks explores cycles of incubation, transformation, predation, beauty, industry, decay and renewal. Each work reflects a tension between fragility and resilience, concealment and exposure. These phenomena are often unseen, but none are secret, hidden or rare.
About the artist.
Megan is a Brisbane-based mixed media artist whose greatest influence is the natural world. She has always found pleasure and purpose in creating things, and from a very early age loved to draw, paint, sew, print and make gardens. She has trained at the Brisbane Institute of Art and TAFE, focussing on drawing and figurative painting. Her current sculptural focus began after attending a fibre art workshop about a decade ago. Inspired by the possibilities of merging her love of nature and her interest in texture, fabric, form and line, Megan has developed a unique and sustainable practice. With a background as medical doctor, Megan brings a deep understanding of the human condition and the need for stillness and restoration. Just as her practice offers her a sense of calm and renewal, she hopes her work becomes a sanctuary for others, creating quiet, contemplative spaces within an often chaotic world. Each piece invites the viewer to pause, dream and uncover their own personal meaning.
