Through the Leaves
Through the Leaves
By artist: Christine Pickett
High-fire stoneware painted with ceramic underglazes. 20 x 20 x 11 cm
I like to capture the mixture of cheekiness and severity of the expressions of the Australian Magpie. This artwork is a functional cup, saucer and side plate that have been made by my hands on the studio wheel from high fire clay that has then endured and changed in the heat of the kiln.
About the artist.
I enjoy working with the tactile possibilities of clay. It is an earthy medium with boundless possibilities, yet can be tamed to become an expression of my creativity that can be used in people’s everyday lives. I presently paint Australian flora, fauna and birds on wheel-thrown stoneware. I think it is important for people to be reminded about how precious our native birds are, even though they are often hidden and only fleetingly seen.
