This platter shows a monkey dressed in his circus costume as he performs tricks under the watchful eye of his trainer. It it a scene that can be interpreted both as joyful but also a bit intimidating. How many of us go to work each day and do our tricks under the watchful eyes of our superiors?

About the artist.

Christine Pickett works from her studio at Boronia Heights. She makes wheel-thrown ceramic vessels painted with ceramic underglazes featuring Australian wildlife, birds and flora, often with a humorous twist. She likes to bring an appreciation of the creatures that inhabit our native surroundings into our everyday life and enjoys making functional artworks that depict images that make the viewer aware of the beauty and sadness of life.

Collection or delivery.

This item is part of the Not My Monkey Art Exhibition, on display at Plant Empire from 25 July - 16 August 2026. Exhibition items are available for sale in person or online.
