Ceramics. 15 x 15 x 10 cm

This piece looks at the members of the community that are unseen. The general population are in a tight knit circle, touching each other, sheltering each other, with conforming shapes, size and colour. Then on the outside of the group is a baby in a tight ball, a small child and a person who is hunched over, sitting down. They are all on the outside of the circle, not included, in drab grey, with the word "unseen" stamped into them. They represent those in society who slip through the cracks, the ones we miss, those who struggle on without any help when they would really benefit from being brought into the group, supported and loved.

About the artist.

I am a ceramic artist based in Elanora on the Gold Coast. I love the exploration and experimentation opportunities that ceramics give me and regularly try new ideas. All of my work is hand-built and ranges from garden sculptures to vases, wall hangings, decorated spheres and kitchenware. The pieces always include some form of texture, pattern or decorative 3D sculptural elements created using fabric, ceramic tools, stamps, and cutters. I enjoy making items that are unique, one-of-a-kind, sometimes quirky and unusual, but always different, and love to incorporate colour as a carefully thought out element of the finished piece. I have worked in art in some capacity whether full-time, part-time or as a hobbyist since the 1990s exploring painting, textile art, mosaics and ceramics.
