This series of paintings show the fragile balance between joy and uncertainty through the image of a circus tent beneath an approaching storm. Flags are animated by the wind and evoke a sense of celebration and anticipation while the dark, rolling storm clouds introduce a sense of tension. Together, these contrasting elements reflect moments of wonder and fun that often exist alongside challenge and change. Through colour and movement this work encourages reflection on optimism, the beauty found in transition and escape and resilience, even when the horizon appears uncertain.

About the artist.

Catherine George is a Brisbane-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice is shaped by the distinctive light of the subtropics. Catherine’s work navigates the tension between beauty and unease, exploring themes of displacement and the otherworldliness.

Collection or delivery.

This item is part of the Not My Monkey Art Exhibition, on display at Plant Empire from 25 July - 16 August 2026. Exhibition items are available for sale in person or online.
