Ssshh I (The Shape of Rest)
By artist: Kavitha Gobinathan
Ceramic, gold lustre, organza, beads and wire. 20 x 20 x 36 cm
Shaped like soft blooms, each form holds small ceramic figures nestled amongst petals of organza and fine wires. Paper stamens adorned with beads become support for the figurines while the gold lustre adds a quiet whimsical glow. These figures are women at rest, capturing intimate moments of pause and self-connection that are often unseen in the busy days of a mother and carer. The bloom becomes a way of understanding that just as a flower cannot bloom to its full glory without time and stillness, we too cannot grow without rest.
