Bird Bath Workshop (14 October – 4 November 2023)

Bird Bath Workshop with Monte Lupo Arts: Saturday 14 October – 4 November 2023.

In this 15-hour workshop held over four weeks in October and November you will learn from Monte Lupo Arts to sculpt and mosaic your own feature ceramic bird bath for your garden. You have the option of making your own mosaic tiles from scratch in the parallel Mosaic Tile Workshop (held 30 September & 21 October), or else you can choose from a selection of tiles that have been made by Monte Lupo artists. 

In the first week's 7-hour workshop, you will learn a range of hand-building pottery techniques including slab building, scoring and slipping to make the top bath section in the shape of a flower, plus a base pedestal which will form the stand for the bird bath. When you return for the second week’s 2-hour class, you will paint the top section with underglazes, plus any areas of the base to suit your design. Your pieces will be fired twice following both the second workshops (the second time with clear glaze), ready for you to decorate with handmade mosaic tiles in the third 3-hour workshop. You will grout your mosaic tiles in the final workshop and optionally glue the top section to the pedestal base. Finished pieces can be picked up the day after the workshop once fully dry.

3. Saturday 28 October: 10-1pm

4. Saturday 4 November: 10-1pm

All levels of experience are welcome for this workshop, and all materials and equipment for the workshop will be supplied. This workshop is suitable adults and children over 10. All Plant Empire workshop presenters involving children are Blue Card holders.
