This work depicts my own veggie gardening journey of this year, and where I hope it will continue to grow. I began the year in a new space, in a garden that had clearly been well loved, but left untouched for a long time. I was excited to see if I could bring some life back to it. I had wanted to have my own veggie patch for such a long time: a place where I could learn, dream, make mistakes and experiment. It started battling with cobblers pegs, and slowly became a patch of flowers and veggies! And soon, I dream a flock of "foragers" will join this gardening journey, to cluck and dig and gobble up veggies scraps… and hopefully not get into too much mischief!

About the artist.

Based in Brisbane/Meanjin, Ingrid Bartkowiak is an artist and illustrator who works primarily in watercolour. Her hand-painted work features native flora, fauna and fungi. Ingrid has a fascination with all things small and intricate, from tufts of moss on a footpath to fungi sprouting from a wombat dropping. At a young age, she discovered painting as an intimate way of connecting with nature. Inspired by botanical illustration and the arts and crafts movement, Ingrid’s technique makes use of the watercolour medium through tiny patterns, exquisite detail, and vivid blocks of colour.
